About 32 years ago I was visiting Williamsburg with some friends. We wandered into a gift shop and I saw a framed picture of the Governor’s Palace on the wall. Upon closer inspection, I realized the picture had been cross stitched. I wanted to create the Palace as well, so I purchased the pattern. I got it home and spent many days looking at the thing and putting it down because it didn’t make sense to me. I finally decided to forget the directions and go for it. I went out and found the DMC colors listed on the pattern and got some Aida cloth. Well, I made mistakes…I made miscounts, I made knots, I spent hundreds of dollars on framing. But, the finished project still hangs proudly above my parents’ doorway.
Since then, cross stitching has become a passion. Everyone I know who has been married, or had a baby, or moved into a new house has received a stitched gift. My house and my parents’ house are filled with framed designs on every wall. I own more patterns than can ever be completed in a lifetime. I have bags and bags of unfinished projects. I have materials waiting for me to begin a project when the spirit moves me. Along the way I have discovered tricks to make my stitching easier and my materials more organized.
On this website I will share what I have found to work for me. If you are a beginner, I hope you will come to enjoy stitching as much as I do and will become an expert in your own eyes. If you already feel like an expert, I hope you will continue to share your love of stitching with others as you create your own masterpieces.
If you have any ideas you would like to share with me, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for stopping by. Happy stitching!
